I have the same ingnition coils problem with well-maintained 2000 Maxima with 75K miles. Please make sure you let your dealer know you are most disappointed and call 1-800-Nissan 1 to voice your displeasure. I am currently disputing costs of replacing all 6 coils,$960. At 1-800-Nissan1 I was told they had never heard of such a problem 11/3/06. If this is true, all of you who are complaining on line have not done so to Nissan. If you have voiced your displeasrue (and there seems to be a lot of you), then Nissan is lying. Clearly my dealer knew there was a problem and they told me to call Nissan the second I indicated I knew others were having the same problem and I said there should be a recall and I should not pay. Either way, I'm unlikely to buy another Nissan and I've had several. Let your voice be heard.

I have a 2000 Maxima SE that required all 6 ignition coils to be replaced at 85,000 miles. The dealer diagnosed the error code as requiring the replacement of all 6 coils because that particular engine repair code is not specific to a specific wire or plug. In speaking with my next door neighbor who is a certified master mechanic before I had the work done, he found it odd that it did not indicate a specific wire or plug and noted that the only likely way to diagnose which wire or plug went bad was to replace them one at a time, which would be very costly both in terms of time and money.
The question that I have for Nissan is -
Are there codes in the engine diagnostic system that enable a mechanic to diagnose a specific ignition wire or plug malfunction or is there only this "catch-all" error which forces us to replace the entire wiring assembly?
I have had my fuel injection system cleaned twice for bad pinging for which it still has pinged at high RPM's - above 4,500. I can't help, but wonder if there is a relationship between my temper-mental fuel injection system and thus an overworked engine management/ignition timing system and my entire ignition wiring harness going bad??
The car is not long for my family as the service engine light has come on again.

I too had had all six ignition coils replaced by the Nissan Dealership who also was aware of this problem and told me to call Nissan directly. Nissan Customer Service after doing some "research" then told me flat out "I have no complaints or records of this being a problem." I was courteous and nice to the end and basically was told there was nothing they could do. I am quite certain that my call and numerous complaints were probably not recorded so that they would be not be found when Nissan received your identical complpaint. My impression is that a decision was made higher up thinking that we as customers would suck it up and then trade it in for a new Nissan Maxima over time anyways. Since the above problem I have received mailings from Nissan to trade in for a new Nissan Maxima model for a great price several times. No thanks! It is my first and for sure the last Nissan I would ever deal with. There are plenty of more reliable responsible alternatives.
