1989 Nissan Micra LS review from UK and Ireland
"One of the best small cars you can buy"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing.
General comments?
I bought this car very cheaply as a runaround while my BMW was in the garage and it is marvellous.
It has the 1.0, 4-speed gearbox (50bhp) and is the fastest old Micra I've driven. It has nippy acceleration and has been faster than the speedo needle will allow (101+ mph).
Nice comfortable drive with lovely direct steering, finger light clutch, decent enough brakes and good lights.
Heater is very good.
Fuel economy is excellent - I've caned it and still got ~50mpg.
Has used no oil, though the engine is a bit tappy.
I wouldn't hesitate to get another - don't buy any other small car of this age.
