1992 Nissan Micra L review from UK and Ireland

"Outstanding value, a brilliant little motor!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Occasional electrical problem (see below)

Exhaust problem (my fault!)

General comments?

The Nissan Micra is a fantastic little car.

I'm a student and I'm really into cars, my modified Capri started to cost me far too much as I can't help spending money on it so when my Micra came up for sale it seemed perfect - and it is!

It had 37800 miles on it and had been well looked after, I've owned it for 6 months exactly now and I have put about 6000 miles on it most of which being constant motorway driving. It is only a 4-speed 1.0l so I'm stuck to 55mph in the slow lane (to be nice to the motor) as I use the motorway all the time visiting my girlfriend in London, it takes me about 4 hours from Stoke-on-Trent at this speed, but I find that the seats are very comfortable and its got a nice amount of interior space, had 3 in the back and 2 up front for 5 hours (London to The Wirral and everyone was comfortable - just don't go to fast on the motorway and she'll look after you.

The only real problem I've had is that there is something wrong with the connection on the back of the offside headlamp and every now and then (although hasn't happened for 2000+ miles) the lights on the offside turn off and the high beam light glows faintly when they're not on, also the relay makes a weird noise - I think its just a bad connection and a quick change and it'll be spot on.

I really can't fault the little car only that I'd love a fifth gear and I think the motor could hack it too as its surprisingly nippy, I think its about 50bhp more than enough for a tiny little car and it only costs me £30 to get to London from Wirral - and back! Yes, £15 to drive to London from the Wirral (if you don't know that's a peninsula just below Liverpool)

Anyway to finish my piece, I will say that the K10 Micra is a fantastic little car and I would recommend one to anyone - especially those who would like to save money whilst driven a thoroughly charismatic little tank of a motor! (although if you have a four speed like me and you want to use the motorway a lot, be patient - go about 55mph 60 tops and change the oil regularly and she'll keep on singin'!
