"Great car if it did not leak oil"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Major oil leak on delivery of the car.

General comments?

After three weeks of ownership I have been to the Nissan Dealership about 6 times. Once to ask about the burning smell that I was noticing starting with the first night I came home with the car, I noticed a smog in the headlights, I was told that it was only the Catalytic converter. (two more times to have the missing splash flaps installed) Well I then noticed oil in my driveway so I checked it out and found a major oil drip coming down on the exhaust pipes resulting in the burning smell. It took 3 trips to the dealer before they determined the problem. Oil was running out of a seal between the engine and transmission. They completely tore the engine bay apart to get at the seal, 12 days later they informed me that the car was ready to be picked up. I am refusing to accept this car as it was faulty from day one and this problem should have been detected with the $1314 freight and PDI that I paid. Needles to say I would not have accepted the car day one if I new that it was leaking oil. I want Nissan to replace the car for me with one that is new and not rebuild. Nissan say they will meet with me 10 days from now to discuss the problem. Well I will do without my car for another 10 days just to make my point that I am insisting on a new car for new car money. I will keep you informed with their decision.

Good luck!!! Mine has also leaked since it was purchased new in '02. Not only has it leaked, but it was the first to have the shift linkage problem. Engineers came from California and Japan to determine what was wrong. I too thought I was entitled to a new vehicle. The first payment was due the day I took it in for the shift linkage problem!!

I love my car and everything about it. I just wish it didn't mess up my driveway. I'll be looking see how your situation was resolved.

Well I am pleased to tell you that Nissan Canada has agreed to replace my Murano with a new one because the problem existed before I took possession. I may have to wait 2 or 3 weeks for one to come in to the dealer. Total time without my SUV may be 6 weeks!!

If you still don't like the car and want a new one, there is a website called "mylemon.com" Good Luck. I'm buying a 2006.

Have you purchased the 2006 model and what is your impression?

Have you seen improvement over previous models?

As a Nissan sales rep, I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. unfortunately, every so often, and with every vehicle manufacturer, a lemon is made which sours the bunch. I'm not sure what state you live in, but you may want to check into your state lemon laws, and find out what rights you have regarding the problem and it's rectification. If you bought the vehicle new, you may actually have a copy of that information enclosed in your delivery paperwork... I know in my state, it's required by law that we give it to you.

Good luck, I hope everything works out.

Hello,

I was browsing some web-sites to see what kind of reviews the Murano was iven. So far so good (except the oil leak story ; () Anyhow, I'm planning to buy a a used one and have checked out auto trader etc... I was wondering if any of you know of any places where I can get a good deal. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Miss P.

The Murano is a nice SUV. We just bought a used one last week with 53K on the odometer. Everything is going well. We did purchase the extended warranty as I know very well that with used vehicles anything can go wrong, specially if it wasn't well maintained by the previous owner. From here on out it's all synthetic fluids for our Murano. Everything from engine oil down to the ATF. I'm planning on keeping this one for a very long time...

I completely sympathize with your Murano issue. I love my 2005 to be honest, but multiple trips to the dealer for service are starting to freak me out. I also ran into the rear seal oil leak (between engine and transmission, leaking onto exhaust system). After 3 days in the shop I got my Murano back, but within 2 days I was starting to smell burning oil again. By the end of the week I felt confident that it was not residual oil, but another leak - and the dealership confirmed as the "axle seal" had somehow come loose when they replaced the rear seal... I half-jokingly asked as I picked it up how many more seals there were that could be replaced...

I have had it back for 3 days now - I am hoping the burning oil smell is just residual...

Sludge smoking 2005 Murano. I was a bit late on a few oil changes and have done this with plenty of my cars. The Murano began smoking lightly and I brought it in and was told that the manufacturer makes them do a "Oil consumption" test to see why it smoked.

The problem got worse and I told them I did not want to continue driving this vehicle for fear of doing severe engine damage. They made me drive it until it smoked so bad you just could not stand it any longer. This "test" ended up killing the engine and now the factory will not pay the bill.

Yes I was late on a few oil changes, but not to the point of damage to result. $9000? The car only has 16k on it.

I have always drove Nissan, but I must say like everything else these days, they are not living up the the awesome reputation Nissan had forever.

I am not the first one with this issue. I am just getting an American car at this point. Whats the difference? At least I will be keeping the money here now. Murano? Nissan? Thumbs down. And the recalls? Plenty.

Hello please help.

My dad changed the oil in a Nissan Murano, it is our neighbors car. He was trying to help her out since she is single and has no idea about cars. He changed her brake pads, added engine oil since it was low and he decided for some reason to change her tranny oil as well; weird car has only 50k miles.

Now this is the problem, when he changed the oil he went to Walmart and bought some regular tranny oil, it's Castrol and it said it's for all make and model. After replacing the oil, he took it for a ride. After 15-20 miles the car started to act weird. First it would lose power, no matter how hard you pushed on the gas pedal, it would not go. Then it shut itself off. He started again and while pressing the gas car jumped, and shut itself off again.

He called me and I checked online that the oil he used is not the right one, since the Murano requires the special oil. He then went to a dealership and got 7 quarts of the right oil. Flushed the tranny and replaced the oil with the right one this time. Car is still acting weird, but little better.

Does anyone know if this could cause tranny to blow up, be damaged and etc.. Please if you have any idea what can be done to fix this, let me know, thank you very much.

The Murano with the wrong oil change. You might have a loose connection on your air filter where it connects to the intake.

After oil change this happened to mine and the car will run like crap. They probably loosened this to help get the air filter out. It bucked during acceleration and idled bad. Tighten up the the air intake system and it runs great. It had me baffled for 3 weeks.

Good morning, I just bought an 05 Murano SL AWD from a Nissan dealership. It has 58,000 miles on it. I test drove this vehicle, ran over every pot hole I could see, and everything was fine. Unfortunately when I returned home I noticed the driver side seat maneuvering button panel was detached/ hanging loosely. Although the warrnty runs until 60,000 miles, is this something the dealership should/ could correct?

I notice most of your problems is the same I'm having. I have around 104,000 miles on mine though. I do have a oil leak around the same location, I put a Flowmaster Super 44 Series Muffler Straight piped on it. Which I must say sounds sweet for a V6. And my timing chains need to be replaced. I'll tell you what guys, this SUV is not meant to go past 100,000 miles unless you plan on upgrading it and adding performance parts. I'm planning on dropping a new engine along with twin turbo since the engine is the exact same as a 350Z Nissan. Also can anyone tell me that if I remove my catalytic convertor will it mess up anything in anyway, or will it just make my car sound louder?
