1994 Nissan Pickup XE review from North America

"A solid performer for the money"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

This little truck has truly been a gas it up and go type of vehicle. Hopefully, it will continue to be.

80,000 miles replaced alternator and fan belts.

90,000 miles replaced the front brake pads.

105,000 replaced spark plugs, plug wires, for the first time along with rotor cap and button.

110,000 miles transmission tail shaft broke. I pull a 16 ft low boy trailer loaded with a small tractor. Over loaded, yes, and the transmission takes the brunt of the load. Found a used one in a junk yard. 200 bucks for the transmission and several hours of labor and I was back on the road. I didn't replace the clutch. It still had wear left in it.

120,000 miles the starter relay on the passenger side fender wall started acting up. The coil was good, but contacts were a bit charred. A little prodding to get the relay apart, using the wifes finger nail file to clean up the contacts, wrapping the relay housing seal in electrical tape and I'm up and running again.

172,000 miles and It's way past time for rear brake shoes. Plugs, wires and rotor cap / button would probably help a bit on power to.

General comments?

Other than the above, the truck has proved itself flawlessly. Great air conditioning, great comfort in the cab and well thought out dash. Continuous mileage of 16 -25 miles per gallon depending on usage. The rear end has developed a growling for the last hundred thousand miles or so, but continues to work just fine.

It still uses no oil, and is very easy to maintain. Other than the usual bulbs, wiper blades, air / oil filters, tires, etc, there is little to maintaining one of these vehicles.
