1996 Nissan Prairie joy review from Australia and New Zealand
"A lot of car for your money"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The bushes in the starter motor have dried out causing to make a terrible noise on a cold start up. Once it is warm it seems to be alright.
A small rattle has started in the tail gate, even after adjustment it has lessened, but not stopped.
The door panel's are starting to show sign's of wear on the arm rest's.
General comments?
The first time I took it for a test drive I was a little put of by the very upright seating and lack of visibility out the 10 and 2 o'clock position's caused by the two small 1/4 glass's in front of the front door's. I expected it to be another sluggish people mover, but what I found was the complete opposite. The 1998cc in-line four is very responsive with twin overhead camshaft's, fuel injection and a 64mm throttle body makes the 138kw power plant cheap to run with fantastic open road drive ability.
Handling is about what you would expect of a people mover, when empty around town it is very smooth though cornering is sometimes uncomfortable in the sense that it seems to have more body roll than it actually does.
On the open road full or not it is very very comfy corner's nicely and has plenty of power for passing, under load or not.
The top speed is around 220kmph give or take as the speedo only reads to 180kmph.
The cabin is very roomy and has all the appropriate feature's for todays car's.
