1994 Nissan Primera L.X Estate review from UK and Ireland
"Very good solid performer, well worth the money"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
This car was a company vehicle before I brought it since then I have replaced the following.
Exhaust System (all, but the catalyst) this is expensive and I had to take it back twice as the fitter did a poor job, o. k now though.
For approaching 150k the seats are very good indeed.
General comments?
I have added my review as their seems to be no other estate reviews on offer and if your looking for something other than a common Astra estate, you may be interested in one of these.
The car Is in my opinion adequate and quite nippy performance wise it's a 1.6 petrol not a 3 litre sport so get real if you want the world folks, I have driven a ford mondeo estate and a astra and the primera measures up well.
Don't expect to find one in a scrap yard for parts easily as apart from being reliable the estates are quite rare on the road never mind off one.
The car does lose a little oil, needing a top up bi-monthly or maybe quarterly which to me is not a problem.
I have changed the Alternater at 120K
I have changed the starter at 144k
Both ball joints for recent MOT at 147k.
I won't make general comments about instrumentation or layout as that can be found amongst the other primera reviews.
The one expensive awkward point is the tyres, they are 165/95 - 14' which are not as easy to get hold of as one would like, they do hold the road well though, although I would imagine most owners buy the H rated ones rather than the ones that the Thatcham testing centre said should be fitted as this model actually did 135 mph around their test track when it was originally licenced to be used on the road as all new vehicles are.
If that seems excessive, I will tell you that I've had close to that whilst fully laden with family on a good stretch of French highway heading back for the ferry port in 2003, and as I have already stated mines done a few miles now.
That's about it A very good all round family car/workhorse, I would buy another without hesitation.
