2004 Nissan Sentra S review from North America

"Satisfied overall. Good basic transportation"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

At random times the car doesn't crank immediately. It will take 5-10 seconds sometimes to start, or shortly after starting will die and have to re-crank. This is a strange problem, and I hope that it will not progress.

I took the car in for a complimentary dealer check-up. Was told it needed new drive belts because the current ones are worn. There was no visual damage to the belts at all upon later inspection of my own. Replacing the belts in my opinion is fairly expensive, $155. They did recommend that the transmission fluid be replaced, which it probably needs.

I'm having trust issues with the dealer, for when I really do need them, and wonder if they will take me for unnecessary repairs.

General comments?

The car is decent for basic transportation and no more. Seats are fairly comfortable, though can wear on one after a long trip. Road noise is pronounced at speeds greater than 50mph.

Gas mileage is impressive, even with the ever-rising cost of fuel. It lacks though in pick-up speed, mainly due to the small engine and 126hp output.

Air conditioner is cool and breezy, and the car has extremely low emissions, thus making it environment-friendly.

The backseat is not very roomy, so any adult occupants should be prepared for an uncomfortable ride.

The dashboard is conveniently laid-out and easy to operate. I'm still unclear as to how the power mirrors operate, even after reading owner's manual. They may not work anymore. The car is nimble and easy to park.

Before, I had a 1987 Nissan Maxima SE, fully loaded. It seems that though it was almost 20 years older than the Sentra, it had many more luxury and convenience features.
