2001 Nissan Sentra GXE review from North America
"good but not the best"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
A/C stopped working at 55k. It turned out to be an ECU (the on-board computer) failure. Luckily it was till covered under warranty.
The head gasket had to be replaced at 103k.
General comments?
This car makes a good commuter car. I typically get 31-32 mpg driving 90% freeway 10% city street. I get 34-35mpg driving exclusively on freeway. As far as the reliability, it's a notch below Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. I would still say this is generally a reliable car. There is a known head gasket issue so beware of its head gasket history (original or replaced) if you are buying it used. My car currently has 105k and driving very smoothly since the head gasket replacement. I'd keep it until it becomes a money pit.
