2001 Nissan Sentra SE review from North America
"The sane Civic alternative"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing has gone wrong with this car mechanically.
When a rock shattered my windshield when I was driving on the highway, and the dealership installed the new one, the seal around the windshield wasn't installed properly and began to peel off. This was promptly repaired by the Nissan dealership.
General comments?
The Nissan Sentra is probably the best car overall in its class.
With the over-priced and under-performing Honda Civic becoming ever more popular for whatever reason, people seem to forget that there are other options. The Nissan Sentra, particularly the SE with the optional performance package, delivers in a way that no stock compact car in its class can.
Options on my car include power moonroof, performance package with 7 speaker CD stereo system, 16" 6 spoke alloy wheels, performance H-rated low profile tires, and sport tuned suspension, as well as the rear spoiler, which, despite its total lack of functionality - this being a front wheel drive car - manages to conceal the somewhat ugly rear end of the car.
Performance is adequate with 0-60 times of just under 9 seconds equipped with the automatic transmission, or 7.8 with the manual if you can shift it correctly. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a well equipped, quick car on a relatively tight budget.
