1993 Nissan Serena SLX review from UK and Ireland
"Expensive parts make for a short lifespan"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Unfortunately, I have not had good luck with this car, I had to replace the front strut... a big job apparently - cost £700.
Then the exhaust rear and middle section had to be replaced £300.
Now the Serena has failed the NCT test (national vehicle test in Ireland) because of high emission of carbon monoxide - the main dealer says it might be due to to an ECU (black box) which will cost £1000 to replace but can't guarantee that it will fix the problem and can't return the part once it's delivered.
I can't trade in without the NCT - the likelihood is that a good condition 93 Serena with 70k miles may have to be scrapped.
General comments?
I liked the Serena well enough even though it was heavy on petrol- but due to the above problems, I can't recommend it and I'll certainly NEVER buy another Nissan. Previous Toyotas were good cars all the way.
