1994 Nissan Skyline R33 GTS from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Drivers side seatbelt retractor locked - cheaply replaced.

Inside door handles loosen with prolonged use.

You will go through tires like no tomorrow. Burnouts can easily shred brand new rears in one go, and hard cornering balds up the fronts faster than any car I've ever driven.

Average maintenance required ie belts, filters etc.

General comments?

The 25t is a great powerplant that really comes alive with some tuning. If nothing else, rip off the air filter and get a pod into it. A front mount really is the best bang for buck addition you will make here; my stock turbo could be dialed up from 7 to 13 pound of boost with no ill effect (driven over 20,000km).

While it's great fun in a straight line, a Silvia it aint. This car loves to take corners sideways, but if you don't know how, it's probably a bad choice for your drift-Learners.

As for ride comfort, it's a dream to drive. Clutch, brakes, accelerator are all well balanced, and the seat (while a little high) is comfortable for hours long cruises. Note the car is made and sold in Japan, so you will probably have to remove the footrest if you have large feet (otherwise you hit the rest instead of the clutch and stall). Note: manufacturer says it has 4 seats... which is true, as long as the 2 in the back are amputees. Even small female passengers have trouble getting in the back of these, reminds me exactly of the footroom in a 180sx.

...Skylines are manufactured as a 5 seater...

If you don't believe me, then undo the two 12 mm bolts holding down the rear seat, and look at the buckles. There are three, or there should be, if the center lap sash hasn't been removed.

Most Skylines are imported as 4 seaters because the middle rear child restraint is a pain in the backside to fit.
