1989 Nissan Stanza GXE review from North America
"Find one with low miles and it'll last"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Muffler needed replacing several times when car was only four or five years old.
Drivers' side window needed replaced when car was new after I scratched it with a rock at six years old (stupid kid)
It was totaled in 1998 when crashed into the end of a guard rail due to the my mother passing out.
General comments?
My parents bought the car new in 1989 as a replacement for a '79 Dodge Colt.
Though I never got to drive the car I can tell you what I remember from seven years ago:
Roomy and comfortable with cold air conditioning.
Didn't handle that great around corners.
Very responsive and quick.
Power moon roof was a nice feature.
Small hood scoop up by cowl was a nice styling detail.
Generally a good, solidly built and engineered, reliable car.
Nothing went wrong with the car other than the muffler, but I think that was my fault for putting the garden hose in it as a kid.
More features and luxury than the '98 Sentra she owns now.
I can't believe she was looking at a Camry in 1989 (ugly then and now) but went for the Stanza due to more standard features and price.
I know she'd still have it today, especially since it was garage kept since '92 (though a Stanza is quite uncommon these days) if she didn't crash it.
