2004 Nissan X-Terra XE review from North America
"All-in-all, (for under $16,000) we like it a lot and plan keep it!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nissan X-terra.
So far - no breakage.
Previously owning 4 Toyota's, I find a slight decline in quality with this Nissan product.
General comments?
I needed a truck frame vehicle to handle a washboard gravel road between us and the highway.
Ground clearance, turning radius, and handling are superb! It's ability to climb a steep gravel driveway without spinning a rear wheel is phenomenal!
We barely located this 2WD - 5 speed - 4 cylinder model with hand-crank windows (4WD is too heavy and overrated for passenger use).
The kids love the high-riding rear seats!
Downside: Geared tooo low! 2,800 RPM @ 60 mph is ridiculous; it needs a "real" overdrive!
Our "base model" EPA "Green-rated" X lacks the side-step bars and throws rock like nothing I've driven! I ordered and installed front fender extensions to protect the side paint.
We get nothing, but complements on its styling, but the deep paint chips & excessive mud splattering are the price!
Every vehicle should have standard delayed wipers; this one doesn't!
Changing the oil filter is like a trip through hell!
Gas prices make it's mileage look poor, but at least we've got the 4 cylinder.
Lacking in power? Not yet, but then I drive right, and have learned to "skip shift" - 1st - 3rd - 5th... with those low gears.
I removed the black plastic wind-blocking roof basket and moved the front bar forward, making the rack more useful.
