I bought a 07 Nissan x-trail Aventura 2.2 dci 4 months ago and it suffers from steering shudder {dealer says its road vibration) this after wheels balanced 3 times. Clutch burns when reversing with caravan causing horrendous stench of burning in car. When it first did it we bailed out as cabin filled with smoke and it seems to be getting worse not better as time goes on. I am going to tow caravan to dealers to let them appreciate the aroma.

All this is a bit worrying in a 1 year old 13000 mile car that most survey sites seem to recommend.

Ps: I am a retired driving examiner so I do not ride the clutch

Bought 04 X Trail 2.2 DCi from new.

At 8,000 miles the engine went pop and lost power. Turbo gone.

Dealers checked my vehicle on their database and ensured it was listed with Nissan for worldwide warranty. Turbo replaced free of charge.

Making sure I paid for dealer services under warranty, I have since had the garage advise me to have two more turbo changes, and had the new boost sensor fitted as recall. Even though I kept mentioning a small oil leak from the front of th intercooler, they have only just recently changed this. Unable to afford a change of car, I chose to invest in extended warranty, which is what covered replacement costs for intercooler.

A word of advice, if a car is imported like mine by a well known car sales company, the original warranty does not run from when bought from the dealer, but when it first entered the country as part of the import process.

The last couple of days the acceleration has started to play up, and I am wondering what next. Such a shame as lovely car to drive and pulls caravan brilliantly.

As for the smelly clutch when reversing the caravan, solved this by treating myself to motor movers on the caravan, which by the looks of it will be cost effective.

I have just purchased a Nissan X-trail T spec. Nov 08 05 reg.

Drives like a dream, but not as fuel efficient as I thought it was going to be!!

CD player seems to jump after getting warm, eject disc (red hot), leave to cool, seems to play alright again until it gets hot again.

My main concern is the oil leaking all the time from somewhere?? First dealer thought it was the rocker cover gasket, replaced, didn't stop oil leak.

They tell me on Monday it's an "oil charger" problem; £200 to sort it. I have heard of an air charge cooler, other name intercooler, but £200 seems cheap to all the other threads, most seem to say £1000 + lab. Anyhow I am not paying yet!!

This is the first Nissan I have owned in 25 cars, and if not reliable will certainly be the last one...

What's up Nissan, without customers you ain't got a company, so treat us better and we will be loyal to your brand.

I have had a early 2007 (56 plate) X-Trail for 15 months and have covered 14,000 miles. Odo is now on 28,000 miles. No problems at all until about a week ago it started dripping oil on my drive. Found the leak coming from the front of the intercooler. I did the research and also got an opinion from a qualified mechanic who services my wifes car. He advised to get it done under the Nissan Warranty. I'm now booked in for the dealer to take photos to send to Nissan to prove it's a warranty repair! Won't they take their dealers word for it? Heres hoping it gets resolved. I'll let you know how I get on.

2006 X-trail 50th anniversary st-s. Manual... (SYDNEY)

Bought brand new. Drove home from show room and rang the salesperson as soon as I arrived home saying that there is something wrong with the car. I stalled it many times on the way home, starting at lights etc.. Was told that the clutch just needs adjusting and not to worry about it, that they will fix it at the first service - 1000k.. Took car to 1000k service and then back and back many times... It was just too impossible to keep taking a full day off work and to wait the full day there to be able to get it looked at. No courtesy car, and the service centre is a 1 hours drive from home. No public transport to home so very difficult to do services when they need the car the whole day from 8am to 5pm to look at it.

Have had the car 2 and half years and it now looks like the clutch may be going.. Smoked up badly... Just replaced all the brakes and had to have the disks machined due to gouges.. Car still stalls several times each time we drive it... very frustrating and very unsafe... Have nearly been cleaned up many times when we have driven off - the car would just stall in mid traffic...

Also been treated badly and rudely when complaining about the clutch... also been told it is not a warranty issue, it is wear and tear, even though it has been a problem from the first day we owned it... would not buy Nissan again..

Is it easy to replace the intercooler on a 2005 Nissan X-trail 2.2 DCI? Mine has gone but I would love to get some tips on how to replace this. It looks pretty straightforward and I can purchase a warranted second hand intercooler for a fifth of the dealer price. I can't afford a brand new dealer replacement at present.

Hi, my intercooler has also packed up. Leaking bottom left hand corner. I have proved this as I have just blanked off the ends and pressure tested. Leaking at 5 PSI.

Very very easy to remove. 4 bolts holding down the top cover, 4 bolts secure to the engine, 1 push on connector and two jubilee clips.5 minutes work. No special tools needed.

How much do Nissan charge for a new intercooler? I have just found one on E Bay, brand new for 210 pounds, was this cheaper than Nissan?

Regards

Tony.

Purchased brand new 2.0 diesel Adventura in January 2009, and the particulate filter light has lit 3 times.

The engine malfunction warning light also lit on the 3rd occasion, even though I was driving the vehicle on an A road at 60 mph to clear the filter as advised in the car manual.

As the car has covered only 2200 miles, I am not impressed and from now on I have been told that any filter regeneration carried out at a Nissan garage will have to be paid by myself, even though the car is under warranty and only 4 months old.

Would not buy again, and have asked both Nissan UK and the dealer to refund my money.

Hi, I have 2003 Nissan X-Trail, which kicks out thick black smoke on acceleration, and have had the turbo stripped down and was told it was not that, and it has had a new EGR valve, which I was told this was the problem, but it still does it. Can anyone help or does anyone have the same problem? I also have a leak from the intercooler, could this be the problem?

I too have a Nissan X-Trail 2.2 DI 2003 which kicks out lots of black smoke under acceleration and when towing (caravan gets very dirty!). Also seems to have lost power when towing and seems to be using much more diesel than used to. 2 garages can't identify fault and diagnostic test (not by main dealer) shows no faults. Have had egr valve cleaned but still have problem. Car going into Nissan main dealer this week for them to provide me with report on problem.

I have identical problems to the person with the caravan. Have had a new turbo and uplift pump fitted and the injectors have been checked and said to be fine. The car has been in the garage at least 8 times and this is to at least 5 different garages. The care is an X trail 2.2 diesel 03 reg. 115,000 miles on the clock. Don't know what to do next as I was beginning to think about replacing the EGR valve but now I think it will be another waste of money and I'm running out of that (and patience!) Have been putting diesel engine cleaner in regularly recently because I've been told that is the answer. The picture remains exactly as the man with the caravan describes.

Hi

I have a June 06 2.2DCI Columbia X-TRAIL. I too have lost power and discovered a leak in the well documented place on the intercooler. Car is just 7 weeks out of warranty with 35,000 miles, was serviced as per manufacturers instructions and Nissan are wiping their hands of it. "Sorry we can't help you" they said. If I had bought the car direct from Nissan and had got it serviced on their network, then I would have been OK they said. I think everyone in these positions should get together as one and take a major legal action against Nissan. They are ripping people off with costly repairs, and they knew fine rightly years ago that this was an ongoing problem and did nothing to rectify it.

Had my 05 X Trail for 3 years now with no problems, now done 39K miles and turbo blown, intercooler changed under warranty last year. My dealer now states they can only deal with the problem under warranty if I can provide a full service history, which it has, but not with them, proving I have used Nissan parts ie a receipt from the garage, using the main dealer for services is expensive, but it seems as though using a local garage as an alternative may not be the most cost effective method, they generally fitted uniparts to my car, which have always been good value in the past.

Reading all the comments above, I will seriously consider buying something else next time, what about a KIA?

Nissan x-trail 2.2 diesel 2002.

Blowing black smoke on purchase, replaced air filter, oil and oil filter, took off intercooler and cleaned on the outside oil deposits on all corners underside and top. Pipe from air filter side also contained oil, concluded by adding prolong diesel treatment. I then drove vehicle hard on open road for 30 minutes. Left vehicle and drove after an hour with notable difference on emissions reversing.
