2002 Oldsmobile Alero GL review from North America

My lifters needed replacement at 94000 Miles.

Passenger Side window regulator at 94000 Miles.

My catalytic converter was replaced at 95000 miles.

Both wheel bearings needed to be replaced at 95000 miles.

Drivers side window regulator at 96000 Miles.

All 4 Rotors were worn down at 97000 Miles (Replaced, unable to be resurfaced)

Coolant flush, tune-up performed at 100,000 Miles.

Lower Intake Manifold Gasket Leak discovered at 103,000.

Pass-lock Sensor failed at 103,124 Miles (Master Ignition Cylinder & BCM needed to be replaced)

Intake Manifold Gasket, Oil Pump, Water Pump, & Full engine flush at 104,000 Miles.

I was a student who was simply looking for reliable transportation to and from school. I performed all the general maintenance required on the car, with no neglect to it from the moment I bought it. According to carfax, the the car was a rental before I owned it, which means that the car was serviced regularly and not neglected as far as service.

This car spent more time in the shop then it did on the road. Don't get me wrong, when the car ran I loved it. It drove more comfortably than anything I've ever driven, however, it cost me nearly twice the value of the car to keep up on repairs.

If you happen to come across a nice looking Alero on a lot, beware. These cars do have problems which occur on all Aleros. The window regulators, Brake Rotors, Pass-lock Sensor, and Lower Intake Manifold Gaskets are all common and recurring and expensive problems on these cars. If you see one of these cars on a lot, simply keep walking.
