2003 Oldsmobile Alero GX from North America - Comments

"I thought it was a great car until this summer when things went downhill."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

3 weeks after I bought the car brand new, my factory radio/CD player had to have a new seal put in behind it. I noticed my Cd's would quit playing and when I ejected them they'd be wet. I'm gathering the condensation was from the A/C.

My rotors had to be replaced at 17,700 miles.

My fuse block has been replaced twice now from water damage. They now claim they found and sealed the leak, I'll see next time it rains.

It seems to stall and idle weird, especially at traffic lights. I believe this still might be related to the water problem. However, every time the dealer claimed they fixed it, it still does it.

My gages sometimes turn erratic and either won't work at all or will stay on after the car is turned off. This does it quite often when it rains I've noticed.

I have noticed a puddle on the driver's side floor. I will keep an eye on this, not sure if the car is leaking some where like people claim or if it is from my own feet.

General comments?

Just like other people have mentioned, I do like the looks of the car. I just can't chance it not starting or getting stranded somewhere when it rains!

I know I will loose a lot of money on it, but I am trying to get rid of it before my warranty runs out and I'm stuck paying the bills myself. I will feel guilty selling this outright to someone else. I know I will probably have alot more problems to come if I keep it. Everything I mentioned about has been totally covered under warranty. I have no choice but to trade it in or see if I can file an "Ohio Lemon Law" claim and get the dealer to take it back and pay off the remainder of my loan. If anyone has the same problems or any suggestions, you can email me at oldsmobl88@yahoo.com.

I had the same problem as you, traded mine in on a g6 gt. Much better car a piece of mind is worth the loss I took. But at least now I have a car I can count on.

In reply to your post I have a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero GL, and my gauges go erratic it's left me on the road 3x, and in the past week and a half has gone through 3 alternators (getting it's 4th put in now) and also had to have the Intake Manifold repaired but GM paid for it... I HATE this car, personally My Grand Am was a lot better than this one. I also notice that when it rains it also leaks water as well, but sometimes I wondered if I was imagining it but apparently not, as you have the same problem. My Engine light has come on 3 x then goes out, wheel bearings were both replaced, then had to get new bushings, rack and pinion and tie rod end replaced 2 weeks ago that was 693.00, and since I've owned the car for 5 months, I have put over 1203.00 worth of repairs.. I can't afford this anymore, it's being either traded or sold privately.
