1999 Oldsmobile Alero GLS review from North America

32000 miles the power steering pump went out, the interior in the rear pulled up around the doors, the trunk sprung a leak and started taking on water (didn't notice that until about 45K when mold started eating the back seat) That was due to a faulty rear flapper located in the trunk. silent recall to those of you that still own this.

37000 miles (right out of warranty) the alternator kicked the bucket and the power steering pump went out again. Also around this time the cruise control switch broke and the tape player ate a tape and won't give it back.

42000 miles drivers side window motor broke and the glass fell out of the side mirror.

50000 miles transmission was overhauled due to a faulty torque converter switch, and several solenoids that were bad. also the window motor died again for a while, but started working again.

50000-present eats a quart and a half of oil between regular 3000mile oil changes and it is going back in for a leaking tranny, also the drivers side fog light keeps blowing bulbs..

We bought this car because we were told they were good cars! (by a GM employee)

Turned out to be nothing, but a money pit. Translated into about $3400 in repairs outside of the warranty work.

The styling is great, but the finishing and reliability is the worst I have ever encountered.

Terrible resale value and trade in...
