1999 Oldsmobile Alero GL 2 review from North America
"Overall an excellent family car with lots of extras"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Couple of warranty repairs and one safety recall during the first year.
Four years later rear right window motor died. Got it replaced at dealership along with fuel filter for $350. Very expensive!
Last year (fifth year) the coolant started leaking along with a traction control sensor going bad in wheel bearing. Notified GM as both were known issues and GM replaced and fixed both free of charge.
Dealer charged only for coolant refill. Very happy with GM customer service.
General comments?
Excellent car to drive and has very good
looks. Sports sedan looks.
Has a lot of extras as standard features which are usually options on the competition.
Has excellent mileage: 26mpg in city and 32mpg on highways.
Everything still works great, no rattles,
no weirdness.
Steering and handling is very precise and feels very comfortable.
Steel body makes it a heavy car for its class.

| If you can get past the problems, Alero has potential: MUCH better than the Achieva it replaced! |
