2001 Oldsmobile Alero review from North America
"Solid car with questionable repair history"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Since January of 2005, I have had to replace the power steering, the Pass Lock system locked the ignition, forcing a bypass through the security system that allows it to work, but without the security system. Replaced both the front wheel bearings. All between about 59,500 and 61,500 miles. So est. $1,000 worth of repairs since January, and it is currently the beginning of June 2005. I have been an owner of the car since July of 2004, and have put an est. 4,500 miles in that time. I heard from the repairman at the auto shop that my car was the 4th Alero at his shop alone that required the wheel bearing replacement (on the left side in particular, which was repaired one week before the right on my car).
General comments?
I enjoy the power of the engine.
Isn't the best at gas mileage, but isn't a gas hog by any means.
Handles well.
Sound system is excellent.
No issues with paint peeling on the stereo or seats tearing. In fact, the interior has held up well.
