"Never own one again"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Many problems: brakes 3 times

Rotors 2 times

heater blower only works on 4th dot, lights on dashboard always on

service engine soon constantly although dealership can't find problem hazard light switch manufacture warranty-replaced

hit a bump dome light falls out, battery exploded one time

windshield washer tank leaks fluid out cannot check transmission fluid no dip stick has to go to garage

carpet very cheap

doors freeze shut at slightest cold weather

fuel pump went-no warning driving down road and shut off

trac-off, anti-lock brake light on front wheel sensor replaced

low tire pressure always on and constantly resetting new tires full of air.

Cigarette lighter broke-did work then quit.

General comments?

Very costly vehicle I wanted this car because it does have a nice look drove nice and gas mileage. No better mileage then my previous Delta 88.

Constant monthly trips to garage dealership knows me on first name basis.

And I have always been persistent on well maintenance of my vehicles so it is not from lack of care. saved to buy this car 5,000.00 plus trade in so I wouldn't have a payment. still paying like a car payment no exaggeration 100-150 dollars a month for car maintenance and repairs.

Have always owned Olds. and never had the money racked into one like this one- (even had a delta 88 1999 with 245,000 miles sold it and people are still driving it-over 300,000 miles on it.

I Totally agree with this statement!! I bought a 2001 and It has about 95,000K on it and it's in the shop at least once a month... I've had to replace the steering Rack In mine... the brakes there is lots of pads left, but squeal all the time... the recall on the 4 way blinker it goes off all the time the 4 ways never come on, but it just makes the ticking noise it got fixed at 50,000K when I did not own the car, but Its going off again... The Check Engine Light is ALWAYS on as well as the low tire pressure and there is the right amount of air in the tires!! What can I say... At least it looks good to drive in?!?!?!

I have had low tire pressure problems for 3 years. The tires slowly leak. I would say after about 3 months the tire pressure is low. I brought it in to 3 different tire places, but they say there are no leaks. I have had no other problems, but when someone can't fix something it is very frustrating.

If the tire places say there is no problem (meaning the car isn't causing the leaks via bad alignment or whatever) I would totally switch tire brands when your tires are due to be replaced and then see what happens.

I totally agree with the first statement, my car ran good up until the warranty and it's been doing crazy stuff every since then. I have had to replace the ignition core twice the check engine light is always on and off, also the low tire pressure light just makes me mad. Took the car to Discount Tire had the tires rotated and balanced, left the shop got on the freeway, guess what Low Tire pressure. Oh and the dome light, hit a bump and the thing scared the mess out of me being that its was late at night and I was driving alone, I thought someone was in my back seat, took it and hit me with it. (a but funny) The fuel pump has been replaced twice and something called a gas regulator under the hood, car had a very bad gas smell, oh and the trunk leaks.

To the owner who had the fuel pump problem: could you post more info on this? I have an 01 alero and yesterday it died, the engine light started blinking and was losing power, then stalled and would not restart. will not turn over either. Did you have the same issues with your fuel pump?

As an owner of a 2001 Alero, this car is a lemon. It has an unending stream of problems, most of which seemed to occur right after the warranty ran out. From the dome light, to the alternator, to poor quality tires, to faulty wiring, it never ends. After this, I am done with American cars, particularly GM. Honda should write a letter of thanks to GM for this one, because I'll never buy American again.

I totally agree with the comments on the 2001 Olds Alero.

It is a nice car, and rides good, but after the warranty ran out, we have had nothing, but problems. The service engine soon light stays on all the time. We take it in, they find nothing wrong, and reset it, and one day later, it is back on. It now has 112,000 miles and one problem is the signal light keeps making a clicking noise. We have been told it will cost 300.00 plus to get repaired. This weekend the

brake light came on and after taking it to our brake repairman, the brakes were fine, but it turned out the be a sensor on the brake fluid container. We have not found out how much that will be to replace. It's like every time we turn around the sensors are going off. We have also had problems with low tire pressure lights every time we get new tires or get our tires rotated. We have decided this vehicle was much too costly to cause us such grief. We will defintely change to another brand name next time.

I own a 01 Alero GL. This is a Lemon! Both driver and passenger side windows have had the regulator replaced now! Good thing my boyfriend ordered the part on ebay and fixed it himself or it would have cost about $500.00 instead of $100.00. New routers and replaced brake pads twice. Overhead light fell twice. Car still makes a squealing noise. Cruise control no longer works. Leaks coolant. Replace engine and compressor. New belt three times now. Cylinders bad and all engine lights continue to light up. Fixed recall for hazards and turn signals that just stopped working. I've put more money into this car than I payed for it. Do not buy if you have any sense. Resell value now maybe $3,000. if I'm lucky.

I own 2001 Alero GL and I've apparently had better luck than all of you. Only minimal problems so-far on 80K miles. The problems I've had happened before the warranty ran out.

I had the same LOW-TIRE light problem as most of you, which turned out to be a slightly bent rim. Replaced rim, reset light and have never seen it since. I was told at the shop that because of the unique size of the rim, to keep the inflation a 2-3lbs above max cold psi in order to tighten the bead against the rim.

The check engine problem could be a computer trouble code that your shop hasn't erased. Wal-Mart has serial port code computers that will not only explain the trouble code stored to the car's computer; it will also ERASE a past code.

Also; if your trunk is leaking check that the trunk alignment is correct. Best way to do that is to smear a light coat of silicone lubricant on the seal, then close the trunk NORMALLY (don't slam or force it down). Open it and see if the silicone makes a complete ring around the bottom of the trunk lid. Gaps will show you where the problems are.

For those of you who think you have fuel pump problems, check with your trouble codes. If you don't get the code for the fuel pump, replace the fuel filter (it's clogged).

Unfortunatley, and I do mean unfortunately, I am an owner of a 2001 Olds Alero. Loved the car to begin with, but started having problems almost imemmeidately after the warranty ran out. I've replaced the fuel pressure regulator, the fuel pump, and now a cam shaft sensor. I've spend nearly 1000 on this car in less than six months. And, you guessed it, yesterday it quit running again. I'll never own another GM product again.

All that I can say if you buy a used car you don't know how it has been maintained. Bought my 2001 Alero V6 new off the lot 09/2001. Very pleased with this vehicle. As of 05/21/2008 I have driven car 436,000 miles with no major problems. My problem experienced are listed on "Excellent car, Wish I could buy another" article. Original engine (no overhaul). I am still driving on a daily basis with a weekly commute to work of 1100 miles round trip. This is used as a daily driver, complete with trailer hitch for hauling twin seadoo trailer. Still gets 28.4 mpg. Does not burn any oil between changes (12,000 mile oil (synthetic) changes). Have written GM congratulating them on the reliability and design of this vehicle. There only comment was that it was not unusual for Loyal GM customers to contact them with 500k up to 1 million miles on there cars. I answered yeah, right... And how many engines and how old were these vehicles. In return for my letter of commendation of their engineering GM sent me a free oil change. I returned their certificate with a note reading "The only reason this vehicle has performed as it has is that I have been using 100% Synthetic oil since day one. Thanks for the certificate, but save it for somebody who uses your service centers."

I love my Alero, and disagree with all statements.

If you're going to the Stealership, that's why you're there every month.

I have 220,000 miles on my Alero and it's still running strong. About average on maintenance/repairs.
