Had to replace alternator 3 times
Had to replace entire A/C system
Numerous brake jobs
Power rear windows quit working.
Overall a reliable and comfortable car.
The owner's statement about this car having overall good reliability doesn't match the repair history. In what appears to be less than one year of ownership, he has had to replace the alternator 3 times, replace the entire AC system and the rear power windows not working.
I have owned an Aurora for 5 years and am pleased with the car's looks and features (especially the engine and power train). When it comes to reliability though, I wouldn't give the car glowing reviews. It too has had air conditioner problems as well as numerous electrical glitches to include power windows working intermittently. My Aurora's reliability is in line with most other GM products--poor compared to Asian imports.
I purchased my '98 Aurora in Oct. of '99. This car had 70,000
kms,-high for a one year old car, but it was in beautiful condition. The first year we had this car I put on another
40,000kms with no problems what so ever. this car is a dream to drive and surprising as it may seem will out perform many
of those cars that are given a higher performance rating.
From 50 mph up, this car has incredible acceleration, and its
gas mileage at 80 and 90 mph is great. On numerous trips driving at these speeds I averaged over 32 mpg (canadian) This
car really shows off at high speed. It handles great and is
very quite inside.I've had many other cars (which includes
high end imports),that don't even come close.
I have had my Aurora for about 3yrs now. I bought it used with about 33,000mi on it. I have no problems until recently when I had to have the alternator replaced. I am having a problem with getting the tires balanced properly and the car shimmies over 65mi an hour I am in the process of having the tires replaced and hopefully that will take care of it. I love the car overall. Driving on Atlanta highways I have to have good merging power and this car has it!
My question is how to remove and replace the alternator in the 1998 oldsmobile aurora.
