1999 Oldsmobile Aurora review from North America
"Lots of car for the money, but horrendous brakes!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Endless rotor warping at approximatly every 10 - 15,000 kilometeres!
Tranmission Torque converter error code displayed at approximately 50,000 kms.
Sunroof appears to now be failing at 61,000 kms.
General comments?
Overall, a wonderfull car to drive and to me seems to be the epitome of what to refer to as a "Touring Sedan".
At 6' tall I find myself quite comfortable for extendend trips.
4.0L is a fantastic engine and though very heavy the car is relativly economical to drive.
I found it is a lot of car for the money and the design was ahead of its time.
I never really understood why the Olds lineup was not more popular when the Buick line did well. I mean the Randezview and Century, come on.
It seems to me that this cars greatest flaws is inherant with 90% of the GM front wheel drive lineup. Atrocious brakes and failure of GM to agnowlage it. I think you will find the same problems in the Grand Ams, Malibus, Aleros (definately), Intrigues, Centuries etc. I have driven and had the same experiance with them all.
The dealer service was a disgrace considering three new vehicles were purchased there over a 3 year period.
In fact 2 invoices presented were crossing over the line to fraud!
We have recently begun to replace the aging driveway by dumping our '01 Alero Gls in favor of a new '03 Jeep Liberty Renegade and so far love the rig and the service.
The Aurora I will likely keep and drive to the bitter end as its only flaws so far are the brake saga.
The thing has depreciated twice as fast as the 4 year payments, but I do enjoy driving it.
