My husband had to have this wonderful car. Thought it was a great looking, comfortable ride! Fast, pretty gas efficient.
Ever since we bought it used at 80k we have spent more than what we are still paying on it! Yes, we had to take out a loan for $13k to buy a 4 year old car with 80k miles. How smart are we?
I can't see why they cost so much for an olds that doesn't seem to last very long. Anyone who owns one should get a reimbursement from the a-hole who sold it to them!
I'm Sorry!!! I think you got a LEMON.
I own one too. It has 133k on it now.
Trany just went $900.132K
Day after I got it back from dealer, water pump went $500.
Week before Trany went, engine check light came on $423 Injector service they said.
Speed sensors at 65k $500.
Makes clicking like (turn signal) noise every once and awhile when starting. Press on the brake and noise goes away!
It seems to me that you folks didn't buy your used cars from a dealer that actually makes the cars right before they put them on the lot for sale. These cars may have been hammered by the original owners, traded and a fresh inpection sticker slapped on them, and put on the lot in sad shape. You can't judge the integrity of a car if you bought it with 80k on it!! And next time buy from a reputable dealer..
I have an aurora, 96 and it has been a great car. It seems to me that you all have bought used cars from unreliable sources. Here in Ontario it is law for the owner to show full certification of the cars history. Maybe that is why I haven't had a problem with mine, since I bought it from a reliable source and I know the history of my car.
I'm not saying that you have to know all about your car to own it and drive it, but you should know how to take care of your own vehicle and in this case and many others I have read, I don't think some people do.
I can't imagine some of the stuff mentioned in this ad happening under regular usage. If the key-less entry hasn't worked right since you bought it, that's an indication that you may be the kind of owner that lets things go until they are a major problem.
Regardless, I found this page while looking for information about this car, and I have to say that although you are far more likely to find pages with angry reviews because more people want to talk about something they are mad about than something they are happy about, I have found tons of great beaming reviews on this car. The few bad reviews are just pepper for the flavor.
If you came here looking for good/bad news about this car, or any other, please read all the reviews from an objective standpoint. Not everyone has their own pit crew, and not everyone knows how to drive without being hard on the car. You just have to take it all in mind and realize that your experience will be unique as well, but probably for the best.
That looks to be a lemon.. I feel bad for you. I am 17, bought my Aurora with 77k on it June 2004. Now May 2005 there is only 79,899 miles on it. I am obsessed with putting lowest mileage I can on it, because I want to keep it as a classic.
Have you ever changed your tranny fluid?? I do that every year. Its probably unnecessary, yes, but what is a measly $129 when a new tranny is almost 5 grand??
I have owned my '96 A-ROAR-A for several years now and still love it to death. Although I have had to make a few repairs on it (speedometer, oil cooling line, oxygen sensor, and A/C compressor), I cannot complain about the $2,300 in repairs. I have driven the car for 120k with little problems for that money. Like the more intelligent Aurora owners, I maintain my car with regular oil changes and servicing, and I DO NOT abuse the car - although I have blown the doors off a few BMW's, Lexus', and Infinities :-)
The car is in the luxury class and one must expect to pay a bit more to maintain it versus a low-optioned car. I have a friend with a newer Lexus that has spent 2x as much on repairs and had put on 1/2 the mileage.
My car now has 310k on it and still going strong!!!
Enjoy.
People just don't get it... GM USED to build great cars- now they churn out flimsy, overpriced junk that's designed to suck all your money out of your wallet. You'd be better off with a Lee Iaccoaca era Dodge than a brand new GM anything.
