1987 Oldsmobile Bravada review from North America

After purchasing this vehicle from a reputable dealer, we discovered the common problem intrinsic to this engine in that the intake valley manifold began leaking.

We also needed to clean the injectors and replace the wiper motor.

The fuel line broke a week later.

With the 90,000 Mile check up we spent over $2,500 after purchasing the vehicle purported to be in "excellent" condition.

One month later the water pump went out and that was another $500.

Then the engine threw a rod off the crankshaft.

We thought the worst was over. It was not. After the dealers head master mechanic told us that the car was in great shape we took it on the road and were stranded in Utah where the engine began to knock. 3 Certified mechanics indicated that we had a bad piston rod. Cost for repair was $4,850.

We were so afraid of the vehicle at that point we sold it to the dealer for $1,500, after paying $8,900 for it which did not include the added cost for repairs.

We feel that perhaps General Motors should be ashamed of this product and that it never should have been placed on the market. We would not recommend the purchase of any of this line of vehicle as the dealer we left the vehicle with indicated that this was too common a problem and that they had shared the issue with GM, but to date nothing has been done to rectify the problems intrinsic to this model.

The GM larger format such as the Tahoe, full size blazer and the new Savoy appear not to have these difficulties however their S-10 and mid size series appear to have common problems which GM to date has failed to address. Let the buyer beware.
