I had to replace the alternator at 55,000 miles.. partly due to my $2,500 stereo system.
Brakes and rotors at 56,000.
Rear window re-sealed after filling my spare tire compartment with water.
When I would start it up on a cold morning it would rev to high rpm's then stall out which resulted in the intake manifold gaskets being replaced 1 week after I bought the vehicle which is expensive.
Spark plug wires also went bad at about 62,000 miles.
Despite the problems, I like my car. It is a very comfortable car that has lots of room, for being a convertible. There is nothing like dropping the top on a warm summer day (or night for that matter) and letting the wind blow through your hair. I would probably buy another, but I'm betting my next car will be a Z28.
I enjoyed reading your feedback, lately I've been having trouble with cold Minnesota winters and high RPM then cutting out. I've had the car to a mechanic twice and they can't seem to find the problem without pulling every thing out under the hood. I'm going to bring this info. to them thanks a bunch.
Cutlass Owner from Minnesota.
I just bought a 1993 Olds Cutlass convertible...
I had the reving problems as well however I think that I finally have the problem solved.
We replaced the air intake manifold gasket and now it runs like a clock.
I bought a 1994 cutlass supreme the first day that I bought it I had trouble with the camshaft it cost me 900 bucks and had to replace my sparkplugs and brakes, yeah my car was a lemon. my car costed me a cool 8grand yea I know that was a lot when I saw the same car for 4grand..other than that I had replace the serpentine belt oh and the transmission cost me a cool 900 bucks too... now my car runs good now after the repairs.. now my convertibe top has trouble going down and up I have to do it manually I heard something snap when it messed up don't know if it was a cable.
Sry about your cutlass, I purchaced mine 11 yrs, old and runs great. We'll see in a few years. However, I do love my cutlass and would not sell it if the wheels fell off.
