"Fantastic"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Our local rural veterinarian always drove Oldsmobile Delta 88's because he found them to be tough and reliable for the dirt roads where his customers lived.

His son and I were close friends, so I got to go on many adventures. The most memorable one was an emergency where we literally flew over the rail tracks upon entering town. We were airborne and then we landed intact. I remember being very impressed with its strength.

Also, I clearly remember that much of the time I was in the car, it was to the mat with speeds on dirt roads exceeding 90 mph. I really miss those cars.

Good luck on your website.

I have actually owned two of these awesome cars, the first was my fathers to begin with, by the time I drove (mid 1980's) it the car looked terrible, 4 door with vinyl top peeling up everywhere but there was nothing at all wrong with the power train.

I routinely blew 1980's vintage Camero's, Firebird's, and Mustangs off the road with that old Delta 88 with a 455 CID 2 BBL engine. That old car also got surprisingly good gas mileage on the interstate, 20 MPG was pretty common.

The Delta 88 handled pretty good, but the brakes were sub par, even for the times it was built, the brakes were really the only problem I ever had with the car.

These cars would exceed 120 MPH by a considerable margin.

But certainly one of the best cars I have ever driven for durability and power.
