Window regulator went out, replaced went out four months later.
Blinkers quit working, but can get them to work if I mess with the hazard button.
Kept shutting off in the middle of driving on interstate, because battery connection is bad.
Passenger side door sticks.
Buttons on radio and other button continually fall off.
The car drives over all great, but all the electrical problems and minor problems is making me considering selling it.
Since my driver side window will not roll down and my blinkers don't work I can't even use hand signals.
I own a 2000 Intrigue as well. I had my car for a year in February. The headlights flicker at night no matter how cold or warm out it is. Sometimes I think they are going to go out completely. Then the car got to where it didn't want to start. My husband thought it was a bad battery, so we bought a new battery. That fixed the problem for about 3 weeks. It has started doing it again. Now it's won't hardly start at all. I have had to replace the left blinker switch, it shorted out and melted. The passenger door sticks constantly. My service engine light came on about 2 weeks after I bought it. Now my security light has come on. The low oil light stays on. The oil is fine when we check it. I have taken it back to the dealership several times. They can't seem to find anything wrong. The only thing they told me was it sounded like the brain (main computer) of the car was going out. That cost about $2,000 or more to replace. They also said eventually it wouldn't start at all. I have had several diagnostics test ran. Nothing shows there. I really like the style of the car. But I have put too much money into it, to keep it running. I am considering selling the car myself. I will never, but another GM again. I am very dis pleased with the car.
I purchased my 2000 Olds. Intrigue about a month and a half ago from a pretty dependable used car lot here in Houma, Louisiana. As far as looks go, this is a great car, but I have been experiencing many of the same problems that you all seem to be having. Luckily, we purchased a warranty from the dealer which has helped out a bit. When we test drove the car, we found that the turn signals didn't work, but overall, the car was in great mechanical and physical condition. Even the power windows worked (a bit slowly, but worked nonetheless.) We brought the problem with the turn signals up to the dealer, but ended up looking like fools because they actually came on when we showed him! This is one of the reasons we sprung for the extra warranty. We ended up bringing the car back to them a couple of days later and apparently the mechanic there had heard of the problem occurring in other cars because that's when he told us about the fumbling with the hazard button to get them to kick on. This does work on occasion, but I'm deathly afraid to be rear ended on account of the temperamental turn signals.
My dad, who is a lifelong "shade tree" mechanic, did a little research of his own on a database of sorts at the technical college. He located a map of the circuitry of the Intrigue and was looking for the "flasher switch" as he called it, but when he didn't see one, he consulted with one of the mechanic instructors who informed him that what would be the flasher switch is actually combined with the hazard button. This is a part that my dad knows he can replace, but is actually not too enthused about having to take apart the dashboard. It of course needs to be changed. Hopefully that is the extent of that problem.
Getting back to the slow windows, we did have to have one of them worked on by the dealer's mechanic. As soon as all the paperwork was signed and the car was ready to be driven off of the dealer's lot, my mom gets in and says "Oh, did you check to see if the windows work?" as she was pushing the button to open the window. It was like Murphy's Law just had to apply to that very second in time. The window would not go back up. So, yeah, the regulator had went out and somehow the cable was chewed up inside of the motor.
We have the same case of the fogged up headlights at times, but only in the passenger side. I was actually quite relieved to read that others have the problem with the fading and headlights. I was fearing that it meant a bum alternator or an engine about to stall for some reason, but now that I have read about the other system taking 100 amps from the car when it kicks on, I will let my dad know. Maybe that is something we can get fixed. You wouldn't believe the number of cars that have moved out of my way on account of my flashing headlights. Maybe it's not such a drawback!
The passenger front door does also stick a bit on my Intrigue. It's nice to hear that is something that is easily adjusted.
I haven't had the problem with the rattling coming from under the passenger seat and I guess you could say that we're pretty fortunate for that.
As crazy as it may seem, I'm very relieved now that I have read some of the other posts. With all of the cars that have been submerged in my area due to the flooding from hurricanes Katrina and Rita, I was worried that maybe somehow this was a "water car" and that we were in for a big fight with the electrical system. Thanks Car survey.org!
