1989 Opel Omega 3000 Kat. review from Netherlands
"Nice and fast way to loose your money"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Not too much, but consider I was only the owner for ten months or so. Clutch cable broke on the day I went to Sweden for a holiday. It was replaced by my garage after towing it myself over a distance of 25km. Mind you, I had the thing just two days.
Small oil leaks (repaired), driver's seat hardly removable, rusty door undersides, aircon defect, rust front/rear windows, defect headlight wipers, defective relays on the foglights, sometimes difficult to get it in fifth gear. All due to neglect by previous owner (German import) and a lot of kilometers on the Autobahn.
General comments?
Although no 24V, this 3000 was extremely fast on the motorway. I did 230km/hs without any problem and still I could go faster... But fuel consumption was very high for this old straight six engine with 180ps. Both catalysts were defective, and together with some other APK/MOT stuff, I realised that it was better to sell it.
But in August 2000, the car was still OK with its new owner and it had run over 315,000kms or so on the first engine. I've heard though that he had to replace the entire cooling system after he bought it...
