1989 Opel Omega GSi 3000 review from Australia and New Zealand
"German quality touring car sports sedan with bullet proof reliability"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The thermal solenoid for the ventilation fan has just failed, yet the A/C is still working so I will probably replace this item when I can find it with a manual & either bridge the fuse or replace it with a secondhand one from a wrecker! Sounds like this is a common fault and it might indicate a broken electric fan.
My purchase six weeks ago revealed the previous owner had it serviced very consistently from a garage over the last three years, requiring a replacement electric door motor for the driver's side, starter motor and new a A/C condensor.
Overall I have heard and read that this model car is a bullet proof workhorse, it flew through an RAC 100 point safety check considering it's over 10 years old and there was only a 5% loss on compression over all six cylinders!!!
General comments?
I made sure to follow all the procedures when purchasing a car of this nature.
Check the specification fits with this model vehicle for its age and condition, ensure there has been regular servicing by the previous owner for some time, follow up wreckers or parts suppliers for ancillary items which might need a replacement and make sure a new cam-belt or timing chain has been fitted.
Contact clubs or the like minded owners you see or know, to establish a firm idea on its value prior to purchase and be single minded on the choice of car.
This car ran rings around my Holden Commodore, pulls like the proverbial bus load of school boys at the top end and accelerates like a rocketship on heat!
