1986 Opel Rekord LS review from Netherlands
"A love-hate relationship"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Water pump replaced, driver side door hinge replaced, brake pads.
Driver seat back worn out, rear axle noisy, clunky gear box, starts to rust on several places, bad generator.
Uses engine oil!
Lots of problems with the newly installed LPG installation.
Adjusted the clutch several times.
Replaced valvestemseals.
General comments?
-Runs cold like a freighttrain engine.
-Gearbox has a lot of play and shifts especially in reverse with a lot of teeth-polishing.
-engine likes oil very much, even after replacing the valve seals 1 ltr/700 km (1 qt/400mls).
-Because of the seat bad comfort, lots of bodyroll in corners.
-weak springs, stiff shocks.. driving over a railroadcrossing and the car seems to fall apart.
Returns 10 km a ltr (26 miles/gallon) on LPG.
Cheap parts, it, s an Opel so the thing starts every day no mather what weather.
I keep this car because of the running costs, some people even turn their had for it when it passes by.. almost a classic though.
