Dead Radio Cassette Player.
Idled very lumpy and a massive flat spot when pulling away between 2k and 3k revs, but only when warm.
The car was taken into a Independent Peugeot Specialist who after decoding the Computer several times decided a replacement Lambda sensor would cure the problem.
This had no positive results and after another session on the decoder the car came up with only one code "CODE 42" the problem has since settled down and the car will now happily idle at a thousand revs when it is warm, with no spitting and grumbling like before, the flat spot occurs occasional depending on the length of time the car has been left to cool down, the shorter the worse.
A previous owner was foolish enough to break the door pin on the drivers side and open the door far enough to crease the panel and badly damage the wiring plug into the door.
After a recent alarm fitting I was advised to clean the Wiring plugs situated above the door hinges to cure the front speakers faults. Although the passenger side now works fine the drivers side plug as mentioned above was badly damaged and pathetically repaired using some electricians tape and bad wiring. Two of the wires have snapped and the circular bracket connecting the male and female connectors has snapped. This has led to my remote central locking failing the passenger window locking when fully open and the front speaker failing completely.
Good looks and in good condition despite coming up to 100k and being ten years old.
Amazing handling and mine is completely standard, will out handle many many cars that would think unbeatable.
Very quick for a 1.4, I have owned a 1.6 GTE Nova some years ago and both cars share the same brake horse power, but with the obvious weight difference and build quality the 106 is far superior both in Torque and Delivery, the top speed however is a little less than I expected.
A brilliant induction sound without an Induction Kit, I imagine this car to sound astonoishing if fitted with an induction kit seeing as the engine is merely inches from the dash.
Good running costs, I have found that on average 100 miles equates to £10 worth of fuel at the current price.
Close pedals, if you have big feet or wear large boots or shoes you'll find yourself clipping the brake when going to accelerate.
If you are looking to buy a 106 XSi, I would make a not of the following checks:
• After taking the car for a test drive switch the engine of and leave it for five to ten minutes. Start the car up again and watch for problems idling, if the car spits and coughs and the revs fall before one thousand, it will be a new lambda sensor and lots of time on the decoder and this may not cure it.
• Check the door pins on the brackets and the wiring connections situated just above, if these are dirty or damaged your central locking, electric mirrors, windows and more importantly your alarm will fail.

I've had my xsi for 3 months now and its wicked, if you need something cheap and nippy then you gotta get one. I am a bit of a boy racer (not that i'd admit to it) so I've raced and beat plenty of cars such as a saxo vtr and mk4 golf tdi and kept up with a mates mk3 golf gti 8v! not bad for a 1.4. 0-60 in 9 seconds is enough to see off a lot of cars, but now I need something quicker, maybe a 106 s2 rallye or gti, oh and I'm big footed (size 12) and the pedals are fine to operate, people who say they are too tight are just clumsy or lorry drivers or sumink.
