1999 Peugeot 106 GTi review from UK and Ireland
"Fuel injected roller-skate"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
My head gasket blew at 40,000 miles.
New passenger door lock actuator.
Leaking sunroof.
Interior electrical problems.
Intermittent starting.
Faulty brakes.
Alarm keeps going off on it's own.
General comments?
When it comes to buying a car, you will not find a hot hatch that gets close to the Peugeot 106gti for handling and acceleration away from the lights.
This is a car that begs to be driven faster and faster.
The standard model is not only great to look at, it will give you 130mph without thinking twice about it.
The interior of the car is questionable and the fact its so expensive to insure makes me wonder if buying it was a mistake, but then I get in it and drive it and all them niggling doubts disappear.
Unfortunately with this car you seem to spend nearly as much time in the garage getting it fixed as you do tearing up the tarmac, but every car has it's problems.
I've now been driving a 106gti for just over a year and am still not sure how I am not dead yet, I put this down to the ultimate handling of the car and good driving.
I would definitely buy another 106gti if Peugeot managed to iron out all the floors and tarted up the interior.
Otherwise, what a car...
