The figure of around 8.5 was produced by Peugeot whilst testing with the car half loaded. (Mainly to try and keep insurance down I reckon)

My last 106 GTi (totally standard) clocked in 0-60 at 7.23 (average of 4)

My current one is just as quick.

Am going to lower it 40mm, but That's IT.

My 106 does 0-60 in 6.8. I've done it many times. Always the same. Dunno what speed you're actually doing, but I've had it past 140mph. I have full straight through exhaust, 4-2-1 manifold and forced feed induction kit.

I love these overblown claims.

The 106 does 0-60 in 8.57 sec. End of discussion.

Who is the daft person saying that he can burn of a Clio 172 lol there is no way on this earth it can OK the Clio is about 120 KG heavier, but it has got 52 BHP more to make up for it I know which car i'd rather have 1.6L 16v 120 BHP v's 2.0L 16V 172 BHP do the maths. Don't even bother saying tha you can burn off the Clio 182 I am waiting for someone too say that they can burn off a Clio V6 in a GTi 106 lol. Auto car Have had the Clio 182 to 60 in 6.3 seconds and so have Top gear. In fact the 106 GTi would do well to outpace the Laguna V6 or the new GT 205 in the real world.

Sorry had to be said someone claiming 6.8 seconds from 120 HP motor is madness. I have been in a saxo VTS and 106 GTi and they are quick off the line, but the in gear acceleration is not as quick as my Ford Mondey 2.0L TDCi 130. In fact I was like saying to my mate are you flooring it and he was. If you want some real Mid Range power then try a Diesel ;)

0-60 means nothing, time a 0-100 and see how you compare to other cars!

BTW a Clio 172 would eat you for breakfast!

My mate has a Clio 182 and my pug keeps up with it no probs round the bends and OK it creeps away just slightly on the straights. But where the driving really matters on those tight twisty "B" roads my pug is all over it!Much more impressive car!Yes it's only 1.6 and that's why I love it so much! Both of us have clocked 140mph and our 0-60 is always around that 7sec mark!Don't fancy paying 10k for a 2.0 car that can be shown up by a 5k max 1.6 pug!Pug all the way!And Ie when your driving a Clio you feel about 10ft of the road and the steering wheel is like one of a coach!

I stumbled accross this looking for a 0-100mph time for my 172, and couldnt stop laughing at the funny things you GTI owners are coming up with! The GTI is a fantastic car, great handling, and good pace. But drive the 172 or 182 and you will realise how wrong you are about the stats your throwing around. I have owned both and I'm afriad there is no contest. By the way, I have also driven the 182, and there is no noticable diference in power to the 172.

I am sorry, but the comment about the 106 GTI made me laugh too. There is no way a 106 GTi can beat a Clio 172/182. The 106 GTi is 0-60 in 8.4 seconds max speed of 128. The 172/182 are 0-60 6.9 max speed 140. It is like saying a 1.8i 16v Mondeo is a Quick as the V6 Mondeo, Megane 1.8i 16v is quoted at 8.6 seconds.

Now can we please stop this 'my cars better than yours', its all there in black and white, both 0-60 times and top speed. unless your GTIs have been given a diferent engine, you simply are 'twisting' the truth at best. Plus the thing you use and benifit from on the roads is torque, the clio has nealry 150 lb/ft, and the GTI has 110lb/ft at 1000rpm higher! with the clio weighing under 100 kgs more. As for handling, the clio really is a class above I'm afriad, I even noticed a big diference in handling between the mk1 172 which I owned, and the mk 2 172 I also owned.

MY 106 gti is fantastic. I have raced several 172s and there is no real power difference. you 172 drivers should get a life. the fact that you can only compare your 2.0 172bhp to a 1.6 120bhp car is shamefull. sorry renault try again.

Ps clio leather feels like plastic. nice.
