Well you are wrong about the newer impreza non turbos, the 2.0 R, they do 60 in 8 seconds flat so is quicker than the GTI and have around 160 bhp so they are hardly slow, but nothing compared to the turbo.
It does do 0-60 in 8.4 seconds; it's just that a few boy racers are getting a little bit carried away.
I used to own a 206 gti 140 that also has a 0-60 time of 8.4, and every time I raced a 106 gti I never lost. I sometimes pulled away from the older ones. Lets face it, they are 10 years old now and have probably lost at least 10-20 bhp.
And as for the top speed, that's 128, speedos read over by 10%, everybody knows that. So you people that say you can do 140, you're actually doing 126.
Look people, I own 2001 pug106 gti. It's standard 140bhp; the facelift model got extra 20bhp. Where are you getting the 0-60, 0-100 and top speeds? It will do in or around 135mph FACT. Unless you are going down big hill... like Mount Everest...

There was never any 140bhp 106's made as standard. I'm a member of a Peugeot GTi Club, and this is total rubbish!
We have gone to dyno sessions with cars that are the face-lift models and the older one's, and they both produce the same output!
It always makes us laugh when we hear these comments, as it's total fabrication!
Hi, I have a 106 xsi with 16v vts engine it also has an air filter, manifold and full gp n rally zorst and I race my mate in his clio every day! 0-100 I pull on him then after 120 were the same, and my car does a genuine 148 on the limiter in 5th I've done it. I drag race every week in notts and I've already beat a scoob turbo, golf gti turbo, and 3 diffrent corsa 2.0l red tops and many many more! its mint coz on the out side the car looks standard so I sit thair at the line and people laf, then they race me and humiliate em! my car did quater mile at santa pod and got a 14.57 best time, most clios if driven well get 15.00. if need be ill put a vid on you tube.
Yes definitely need be, put it on, I don't believe you.

Are you saying that your 1.6 engined non turbo car with an after market exhaust and manifold will beat the above mentioned cars and go on to 148 mph? That's so much crap, and you know it.
Greetings, fellow gearheads!
I honestly don't think the 148 mph claim is that outlandish, since the stated top speed for the Peugeot 106 is said to be 205 km/hr (or about 127 mph.) With suitable modifications to the drivetrain, I think this is a definite possibility to squeeze out 20 more mph. Of course, it's also possible that the speedometer is giving a false reading, especially if there's been a change of gear ratios or tyre diameter.
Also, since the advertised horsepower is 118 at 6600 rpms, I don't think an extra 22 horsepower would require excessive modifications to the stock engine to make the quarter mile run at the stated time.
So 140 horsepower at the flywheel sounds perfectly reasonable to me, assuming the proper modifications. But you don't have to take my word for these specs. Here they are from another website:

I've been a fan of Peugeots for a long time, but unfortunately they stopped importing them to North America some years back.
Take care and good luck!
I have owned 2 VT S's, now my present one being a 52 plate with only 38,000 on the clock. It has also had the engine stripped out and things that to be honest I don't know a lot about I just have receipts and it has been on a rolling road now at 150 brake. This car will pull to sixty in 7 seconds nicely, but no quick really! My old VT'S was a standard R reg with only a piper, cross-viper induction kit on it and it would pull to sixty with only me in it in about 7.9! Dont compare these cars to a Clio 172 your comparing two small hot hatches one with a 2.0 with 170bhb and one with a 1.6 with 120bhb think about it!

I agree. I have owned a 106 gti (first car- very high insurance, don't bother). 4 years on I have a 206 gti (138bhp) brother has a saxo vts and girlfriend has clio 172 (cup). All standard, well, as near as makes no difference. The 206 is without a doubt quicker than a 106 and vts & pretty much equal with the Clio (though my boot is loaded with ICE). No question. But this is not by much. Although not a fan of Renaults, I have to agree the Clio of my girlfriends is quicker off the line and top end over the 106. BUT the 106 is without doubt better at handling (till I had a blow out... but that's a different story) than the clio.
My conclusion... (this is with standard cars)
If you want to start with a quick hatch, but better at handling, get a 106 or vts.
If you want a quicker hatch, but not as good handling get a 206 or clio.
However if you spend a couple hundred quid on 106 or vts air intake and increase bhp a little, they'l be near enough the same as a clio or 206. And same back... you spend same money on clio & 206 tyres/suspension etc, they too will handle near enough the same...
So your basically left with the looks. Personally I prefer the 106 to all, but 106 and vts are bit small for me. So have gone for 206 which is better looking than the clio. Personal choice.
At the end of the day all 4 are pretty decent hatches just depends if you want to start out stock with a slightly better handler or slightly quicker either way they are all equally good!
What you all think?!? Up to you but either way there is a gnat's penis width in it
Small tin boxes going very fast - how nice :-)
To be honest when you put an induction kit or exhaust on your car, you are not gaining power as such, you are unleashing power power that has been restricted by the car company to make it more reliable and better fuel economy, so depending on how much your car has been restricted by the car company, is how much power you can unleash.
Putting a back box on your car won't do anything, but make a noise, but if you de cat the car and add a full system made for the car (not powerflow) you could see show real big power gains, and a proper induction kit away from the hot engine will let your car rev a lot easier in the high revs.
The ECU (car's brain) is a place where your car also unleash 10+bhp with a remap, not a silly chip as all the fuel levels are restricted to make the car more economical to run; you can lift all the fuel levels ie more fuel, more power, then the exhaust will help even more, so you can see with little mods, but the correct ones, you can make your car quite a lot faster.
I have spent 1k on my 106 GTi on a full system exhaust induction kit and remap, and it's been dyno'd at 150bhp in a car that weighs 900kg's. Trust me, this car doesn't hang about.
P. s if you have enough power to pull the 106 GTi to the rev limiter in 5th, the standard gearbox will allow 145mph. Mine won't go that fast, but that is as fast as the standard gearbox will allow.

Hi. where can I get my standard 106xsi ecu chipped, motor only has induction kit.. fred.
Hi, it's the lad with the XSi 16v. For those who don't believe my claims I will be posting videos on youtube soon. I must add that the car is fully stripped and only weighs 790kg, rather than the Clio which is 1220! Clios very rarely produce book horse power figures, as a rolling road recently proved; at a rolling road my car made 143 at the flywheel, and my cousin's Clio 172 made 168 on the same rollers, same day, so if anyone on here can think with an open mind, then they will believe my claims. He might have an extra 25hp, but also an extra 430kg, and to the bloke who commented and actually knew what he was talking about, I was using the standard XSi 1600 box at 7800rpm.
I've had a 106 GTI and dragged it at York. I've had a 180 206, not the rubbish 206gti, and I can't believe you think a 206 GTI is quicker than a pug GTI 106; not a chance! GO GIVE YOUR HEAD A SHAKE and look on youtube.
