"Looks quite cool and is apparently fast!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

General comments?

I curently do not own one yet, although I hope to buy a Peugeot 106 xsi, as I'm going to be doing my driving lessons soon and if I pass my driving test hopefull I'll own a PUG 106 1.4 XSI or 1.3 Rallye.

I have been told of friends that these cars are reliable and others say Peugeot are rubbish. I've also been told the 1.4 XS and the 1.4i XS are rapid, and have very good handling.

Yes they are good cars. Like any car it is down to how you, and the previous owners have treated them!

They handle superbly and they are quick for their size. This is because they are light. Downside to this, hit something solid at more than 20 mph and you are in trouble!

Insurance will be scary, it's a first car! Thing to remember though, Peugeots are usually in lower insurance groups than other cars of the same size body/engine, weird, but true.

Check out confused. com excellent site for insurance!

Simple car maintenance tip!

Oil & filter change every 5k with good semi synthetic.

This is the single most important thing you can do for the engine! Ignore stuff 9k 10k or 12k service intervals, every 5k, best way to improve reliability!

Finally, good luck and I hope you get one, you will enjoy it!

Dave.

Cheers for the advice mate, and hopefully I will own one very soon. Checked out that INSURER and they wanted £1500 third part fire and theft, so it's a we bit dear. But what do expect for a 1400i xs. If I do not buy one of these I will buy a Rover 214 (rover 25 shape) as I've heard there reliable and fast, plus their economical, but I think the pug will be more economical.

I have had both 1.4 and 1.6 xsi, in the same colour (miami blue) and I think they both are great cars, fast, especially the 1.6 version. Just recently sold the 1.6 on ebay and I regret selling it. Now looking for 106 Gti or fiesta turbo.

By the way, the best insurance company to go with is Admiral.co.uk even though I was insured through my fathers policy I found that admiral was pretty cheap under myself. 1.6 xsi was 950 under my dad and with admiral it was 760 which is a big saving.

Have a look on ebay under Xsi's theres a blue one on at the moment number plate L148 SUM, that used to be mine, but it wasnt modified only had the exhaust. And the other blue one on ebay, the 1.6 95 model, the picture is of my 1.6xsi car I just sold, my mate has one exactly the same (1.6) and he used my picture coz he thought it looked good.

:) cheers.
