"Comfy car, but abominable cold and damp starting!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Battery x3.

Starter motor x2.

Alternator.

Clutch.

Auto choke.

Needed new HT leads.

Distributor cap & rotor arm.

Exhaust.

Accelerator cable broke.

Burns oil like hell when it's cold, when it starts!

General comments?

This car is an absolute piece of crap! I wanted something similar to my old Samba but a bit bigger, and it is, but so are the running costs.

It only averages 25 mpg. Coupled to the fact that I have to have my neighbour out of bed at 6:30 every morning so he can assist me in starting the hell raiser from cold. It never starts from cold. I have to pump the accelerator in a morning to help it start and that isn't guaranteed to work. This doesn't work on most mornings in fact! I often flatten the battery and I have ruined the starter motor in an attempt to start the bloody thing in a morning. The problem is I don't live on a gradient! The problem has been put down to 'severe fuel starvation'. Starvation my foot!

I believe the 205 is a very nice car and fast as well. Never had any problems to start it on mornings, maybe some people just don't know how to appreciate such a car...

I had problems starting my 205 not so long ago and the fault was something to do with the HT coil. Maybe it's worth checking it out.

Well if it doesn't start properly when cold, and only does 25mpg, then there's obviously something wrong with it isn't there? Why don't you get it fixed instead of whinging? My 1.9GTi does 30mpg, which is the manufacturer's figure, so how difficult can it be to get it set up right???!?

It could be a damp problem, start the car in the dark and look underneath the bonnet (whilst starting) if you see blue sparks its electrical so find where the sparks are form and get it looked at.
