There is a programmer in the engine compartment on this model which seems to send out confusing signals eg.
Warning light indicating low oil level and high temperature, yet both check out correctly on inspection.
This is the fourth 205 I've owned and definitely the most sophisticated, the previous models being a GR. SR and Roland Garros.
Being an automatic the car tends to be more sluggish than a manual transmission.
Fuel consumption is poor (about 20mpg urban cycle) ; why is this?
Seats and boot are small and the ride is hard like all 205's (what happened to those comfy 204's and 304's with seats like armchairs, a massive boot and a ride like no other car)
On the positive side the car, like all 205's, is very responsive, cute, timeless, reasonably rust free and a pleasure to drive and park (which is why I continue to buy them)
This particular model (one of the last to come off the production line), has power assisted steering, alloy wheels from the Roland Garros, electric windows, lights warning alarm, full sun roof, immobiliser.
I used to own an automatic 205 - liked it a lot until the head gasket went, and as it was a banger anyway decided to sell it for parts rather then mend it.
Your poor fuel consumption is most likely down to a couple of things. 1: the automatic gearbox; auto's generally use more juice than manual equivalents. 2: Check that the automatic choke is working properly! Mine was a old and worn out - unless yours is fuel injected, in which case, it's probably issue number one!
