Drivers side brake caliper seized due to high mileage.
The carburetor solex 32/34/z2 has once failed, the first jet collapsed, so it was full throttle all the way home :)
Front indicator fault.
Speedometer not working when received the car due to gearbox pinion.
The 205 is one of the best cars around I think. I mean I have no rust, its reliable and its not too bad on the petrol side neither. If your looking for speed this car also has that, its not as fast as the 1.9gti, but its insurance group reflects the speed. In group 8 it does 0 - 60 in sub 9 seconds, and a top speed of 115mph.
Nice bucket seats as standard, nice steering wheel, positive feel to the handling of the car.
Engine has a few minor faults, but nothing that a experienced DIY-ist can't repair.
Also if you want to show the 1.9gti that your 1.4 is better, equip your 205 TU3s with a T3 turbocharger and increase boost to 12 psi, obvesiously lower the compression ratio. And watch them cry.
I have 140bhp @ 6000rpm and a quater mile time of 14 seconds (same as a sierra cosworth)
An alternative to a turbo is twin 40s, which on the 1360cc ax/pug engine give excellent, cheap performance. When fitted with the carbs and some bolt on filters, (and a proper set up on a rolling road of course) you can expect about 105 bhp and quite a bit of torque.
Make sure you re-build the carbs if they are second hand when you buy, and have them correctly tuned and jetted on the rolling road.
I am told that 4-1 exhaust manifolds are also good for this engine.
You can also lighten your pug to the same weight as a 205 rallye by stripping sound deadening, stereo and fogs.
I have seen an AX GT with twin 40 dellorto carbs, a ported and flowed head and janspeed manifold in a magazine produce 121bhp and 114.5 lb ft torque, so there is a lot of potential for these engines when you consider a 1.9 GTI has 128bhp and 119 lb ft torque and weighs 77kg (approx 160lbs!) more than the XS, and has much wider gear ratios.
Hi there.
Seems you know a lot about the ax gt carburettors going into a pug205, well I've got a pug205 cj and would like to put a ax gt carburettor in, but I haven't got a wire for the carb on my wiring loom if you could post away of fitting this ax carburettor, it would help me very much. or email shannonadams36@hotmail.co.uk.
