Nearside drive-shaft replaced at 96000...
New head-gasket at 97000
Had new exhaust due to blowing - fitted a Sportex performance system.
Water pump leaked badly when running, replaced 98000.
Before my ownership the car appears to have been reliable!
The red colour has faded badly however.
This is my first car - some would say a silly first car, but having been seriously into cars since a very young age I beg to differ!
It is very fast off the mark for a 1.4
Gearing is stupidly close! Hence the manic acceleration!
Have fitted a K&N bolt on filter, and performance exhaust, well worth it for the noise from the twin choke carb.
Lowered it 55mm, a nightmare with the rear torsion bar. Got the local garage to sort it. Looks and handles better.
I have also just acquired a pair of Twin choke Weber DCNF carbs, and the manifold from an MG Maestro 1600. It is a simple bolt on mod, which I have yet to do, but am told of 15bhp gains...
Overall a brilliant car, especially for the young driver. Shows a VTR a thing or too!
I wish I could bolt on a maestro inlet to the tu and see it as a simple bolt on mod!
These cars are amazing though! I especially like the comment on the vtr- they look at you in your "old shed" and then pull off at the first junction after you have killed them!!
Love it!! Cheap insurance for the performance, plus plenty of GTI parts to fit if you get bored of it.
Top car, cheap to run, fun to drive - buy one to beat boy racers in - even if it isn't your proper road car!
I agree, the 205 XS is very quick, the gearbox is the one everyone wants for rallying, you get them to 5tho rpm and they are just total flying machines, absolutely love mine, wish I had never had anything else :)
