Since I have had the car earlier in the year I can honestly say that I have had no unexpected problems, I had to get some new brake pads and 2 tyres, but on a car that has done over 110,000 miles its not exactly a problem.
I did have one small problem which again was not really the cars fault, I fitted a Solex Twin Choke Carb which can be found on models such as the 205 XS and Citroen AX GT's to my 205 and I had a few minor problems which turned out to be a small blockage in one of the main feed jets, but this was fixed within the hour by removing the carb and cleaning it out with lots of compressed air and then a good run with carb cleaner additives and some shell optimax, with this modification I would estimate that the car was producing somwhere around 75-85 bhp (that is only a guess!).
For a car that was made 16 years ago the bodywork is fantastic with no rust at all due to 205 being galvinized.
I love this car to bits, it pulls well in every gear is nippy from the lights with a reasnoble power figure and light weight, spinning the front wheels is very easy!
I have just started to 'modify' (not in a max power way!!) my car by fittings the larger carb, Pipecross air filter and a perfomance exhaust, also planning to get a 205 gti front bumper which will smarted up the look of the car, also I will probably get some 205 1.9 GTI Speedline alloys as soon as the funds are good enough!
The only probs with the car is that it has a rather nasty tartan effect green seats and door cards, which will be removed at a later date, but the are all in mint cond and with 110K on the clock that is quite an achivement.
As I said I have been very impressed with the car, it goes great round corners, even has a little bit of lift of oversteer! the brakes are OK, but they do fade quite badly when hot, there is plently of grip even from the 165/65/R13 Michelin Energy Tyres, the gear change is precise and it has a fair bit of room in the back, the plastics in the cabin a quite cheap, but they seem to have lasted the 16 years well and there is only a few minor sqeaks and rattles.
If your after a cheap run around that will not let you down or after a nippy first car that is a bit diffrent to the usual nova, corsa, fiesta etc, look no further.
Can't wait untill I can afford to get a 1.9 GTI now!
Be careful with fitting 15" speedline rims. The outer sides of the rear tires will rub against the inside of the fenders when carrying heavy loads. Also the camber at the front is not ideal for dealing with the bigger wheels, except for the GTI's.
But they do look seriously good though!

Cars now scrap!
