1993 Peugeot 205 XS from Portugal - Comments

"Disappointing"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Lots of them:

Voltage regulator.

Noises on turns apparently without solution.

Interior matrix radiator.

Fan of the climatizer.

Central locking, etc.

Resume: lots of money spent.

General comments?

Very nice looking.

Poor construction.

Bad suspension.

Good motor.

Very bad reliability.

Bad transmission.

Good level of equipment.

A Friday afternoon version I feel, as for the noisy turning, that's down to the driveshafts wearing and seems to be very common!!! Especially if you hammer them :)

Right about the poor interior and slightly dodgy electronics, but most problems are cheap and easy to fix, sounds like you have a dodgy one off.

Don't know about suspension, engine and transmission though, they're the best bits. Just be careful before you buy.

I'm the owner of the car.

About the driveshafts, I already replaced one (and the noise still there like always - it's something that could be heard on fast curves with the windows closed).

About the suspension, now I guess the shock absorbers must be replaced (and the suspension should show some improvements after, but I think it's not good anyway).

About the transmission, maybe there is a problem in the synchromesh (another common problem in the 205 XS?), as I concluded in a discussion forum about this car.

Well, inside the 205 XS's universe, it was not a good buy, I think, but these cars definitively are not great things...

The noise you have on cornering and I assume over bumpy roads could be the bushes first to go is the passenger side (in right hand drive cars) as the are always in the gutter I've had my shocks on my Xs for 136669 miles and the springs are original to (badly looked after before you had it). But if you have the time and patience to recondition her then do so as she will repay you..

I've had an XS for 8 years, I've replaced all the front bushes and she drives lovely. Very cheap parts, but the drive shafts do go if you rag them round bends. Maybe a lot of rough road driving in the Portuguese countryside could be the reason.
