1993 Peugeot 306 XLDT review from UK and Ireland

Failed MOT with lots of work to be done to brakes, suspention, headlights.

Started to leak.

Pipe in cooling system burst.

Radiator started to play up and shudder heavily.

Electrics in door went, so no central locking or electric windows.

Was a great car, my first diesel and I found it so easy and cheap to drive, even with such a high mileage.

Loved the acceleration especially on the motorway. The car seemed to be in it's element there, happy to plod along for miles in inside lane just sipping at the fuel, but when needed to accelerate and move to outside lane the engine really kicked in (from 70+ mph) and really boot up and fly.

Cooling pipe burst was cheap to fix, engine was in poor condition, but not suprise for how far it had gone.

Lots of rust on bonet and sunroof which I assume caused the leaking. My mechanic said it was the worst conditioned 306 he had seen rust and engine-wise as normally they are very good.

Would have liked to keep it a bit longer, but for a 600 quid repair cost to make it road legal would not have been worth it considering its condition and so scrapped it and just recently bought a 1997 1.6e megane for £720.

Overall it was reliable (to start with), fun, easy and economical to drive.
