1996 Peugeot 306 DT review from UK and Ireland
"A very underestimated diesel"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Glow Plugs - Soon after picking the car up I noticed it was not very willing to start on cold mornings. I took the car back to the dealer and was told that I would have to pay labour to have new plugs fitted. At the time I said I'd consider it, but after checking my warranty policy document plugs were included, I went back to the dealer and have now got a new set of plugs making starting much easier.
Central Locking - Another fault that should have been rectified before I picked the car up was that the central locking didn't work. The car was sent to a proper Peugeot dealer for re-wiring as the old central locking units apparently are not made anymore. When I picked the car up the door rattled at any speed and the trim was half hanging off.
General comments?
This is my first car and as such I was looking for a car that would perform well if I wanted it to, yet would give me good mpg. This car does both.
Depending on how much you use the turbo the 60litre tank can get you in excess of 700 miles, closer to 800. The insurance on the car is also very reasonable for a car that is a serious performer for a diesel when the turbo kicks in.
The interior is a bit dated now, compared to the newer 306's or the 206's however all necessary controls are where they need to be.
