Le Mans is because its partly down to economy, but if you look at flat out performance racing like F1 its all petrol, plus the diesels don't have the same regulations on them as the petrols, the rules are twisted in the derv's favour.

As for adjusting the wastegate, I hope you have had a boost gauge on there to make sure you are not over stressing the turbo. I own and drive a tuned diesel, and it's good for a mix of economy and performance, but for all out performance just buy a petrol.

I just got issued with an asbo warning for doing handbrake turns in the ice in my 1.9 diesel 306 last night. gutted.

Few questions for tuning the HDI:

1. How much does a Garrett T15 turbo cost?

2. How much does a front mounted intercooler cost?

3. How much does a phase 1 upgrade cost?

Hi, just thinking about buying an HDI d-turbo. Wondering what kind of money would I get a nice clean 3dr for?

I would appreciate any response.

Have a look on autotrader and ebay, you're bound to find something.

Similarly, I am looking at buying a 306 Hdi 3dr. Any that are well looked after and mint are £2000+, but plenty are nearer £1500.

Question regarding re-mapping and insurance - looking at a quote for a modded version is like 40% more than base model. How essential is it to tell the insurers? Can they work it out?

Cheers, James.

You could buy a tuned one for 20k.

It is best to tell the insurance company, but a lot of people I know go by "if the police can't see it at a crash, then they can't count it", but if any case comes up about it regarding legality, you didn't hear it on here as I don't take liability.

Don't tell them, just tune it and live to the max.

Best person to ask is your insurance company before you do it and see if they say it will boost the premium much. Also ask the remapping company and see what they advise. I would not take advice solely from an open forum with things like 'live to the max!' being a suggestion...

A 400bhp d turbo?? Think someone's exaggerating.

It is possible. I saw it at a quarter mile day and it was VERY quick. 11.8secs obviously a lot of ££££s spent.

Why would you use a 90bhp Pug 306 as your base if your going for big power and willing to spend a lot of cash in the process? The 306 diesel is an economical shopping car, not even close to being a performance car, so why not start with something with more power better suspension etc to begin with?

If some one had actually got a 400bhp 306 HDI, it's gonna be so far away from the original car and the money spent in making it so could have bought many other performance cars, which were intended for the job from scratch to name a few BMW M cars, Evos, Scoobys etc etc!
