1996 Peugeot 306 XRDT review from UK and Ireland

- Radiator corroded

- Short circuit in engine bay caused headlamp relay and bulbs to blow

- Driver's side door loom wires severed

- Front suspension brushes

- Alternator makes a squealing noise

- Rear brake drum cylinders

- Whistling noise from wing mirror

- Clicking noise when opening front door

- Inter-cooler oval rubber gasket melted

- Air enters fuel line when the engine is turned off, causing coughing and smoke when started.

My car has had a load of problems (above), the interior build quality is not up to much and it is noisy on the motorway. However, it is an attractive car that handles exceptionally well, benefiting from the fitting of 15 inch XSI alloy wheels. The turbo diesel engine is more noisy and less economical than modern common rail diesels. There is good power between 2 and 4k RPM once the large-ish turbo has spooled up, and fuel economy is still excellent - I get around 45 MPG. The engine in this car is under-stressed compared to others, so it will

last well. My car has done 80k miles and it feels like it will do another 80k. Despite the problems I have had, this car shines as a driver's car. If it wasn't such a great driver's car, I would have got rid of it already.
