1993 Peugeot 306 DturboS review from UK and Ireland

Slight wear on drivers seat.

Power steering whines.

Always had poor brakes.

Gearbox - not easy to select first gear.

Leaky radiator - sold by main peugeot dealer in this condition.

This has been a great car, I have done nearly 80,000 miles in this car and the engine has never missed a beat. It is the 1.9 turbo diesel which was used mainly for motorway driving, in 5th gear it really pulls when accelerating, ideal when you need to get moving! On average I get 550 miles to a tank, less if all motorway driving, but managed 600 miles once.

The handling is great, works best on michelin tyres, am running the fronts on pirelli P6000's which in the dry are great, the second it rains they want to understeer, very capable car at handling islands, bends and a real blast down county lanes. Being the D Turbo it has the sportier suspension, so you feel the bumps, but it doesn't become tiring.

It comes with an electric sunroof & windows as standard, no air-con on the phase1 DTurbo's, but not a huge problem. Quite a funky interior, being the special edition D Turbo S it is green with special edition mats.

The sports seats are very supportive, they are comfty on long drives and never given me cramp which I have found in other cars.

The standard stereo was a basic casette player, I swapped this for a decent cd player and replaced the speakers with better ones, as the original equipment wasn't great.

When I bought the car it was low mileage, but having put on so many miles the car doesn't feel as solid now, it has had regular services and been well maintained, the engine is running strong, but it seems the car itself is falling apart around it, every panel inside the car rattles, the gearbox whines in 3rd and doesn't like to work when cold, the brakes have never been great (always stopped when needed, but doesn't inspire confidence) but with a car that is so cheap to maintain you can forgive this!

I would recommend buying one with low mileage, as you are going to get a good few years motoring from a really competent car!
