1997 Peugeot 306 XSi review from UK and Ireland

"Great CAR probably when it was new!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Many annoying bits went wrong the majority of which were not major, but just annoyed the hell out of me.

MAIN PROBLEMS.

1

CENTRAL LOCKING UNIT WENT KAPUT AND CAR LOCKED AND UNLOCKED IT'S SELF 10 TIMES BEFORE YOU COULD MANUALLY OVER RIDE IT.

2

HAND BRAKE CABLE SEIZED COSTLY JOB TO PUT RIGHT.

3

ALARM PLIP PACKED UP 2 DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR MAIN AGENT WANTED £179 FOR REPLACEMENT & PROGRAMING.

4

ELECTRIC WINDOW STARTED STICKING ON DAY I WAS SELLING THE CAR.

5

KEYPAD IMMOBILISER WOULD KICK IN WHILE DRIVING!!

General comments?

I Purchased the 306 on a auction internet site for £800 a good conditioned 306 xsi.

That turned out to be a load of old cobblers as it looked OK, but it had loads of problems.

On the way home from cambridge to kent the I discovered the car had no headlamps I also discovered that I had no brake lights either!

After it's first service (local garage I supplied parts from e.c.p) the running of the car was lovely the engine purred and it ran smoothly and performed great allbeit that it was a bit on the juicy side petrol wise.

The main problems I discovered was that the last few keepers had failed to look after the car it had been ragged to within inches of it's life you name it and there was a problem...Wheels, lights brakes, clutch cable, tyres (it ate 2 pairs of new front tyres) suspension, the whole lot!!

It also had annoying rattles thruout the paint quality was naff the plastic inside bits felt dated and also seemed quite tacky.

I Ended up spending the best part of £2500,00 on this car only to sell it earlier on this year for a mere £1000,00.

MY ADVICE IS AS FOLLOWS

NEVER BUY FROM A INTERNET AUCTION SITE UNLESS YOU CAN HAVE CAR PRE-CHECKED BY YOURSELF OR A INDEPENDENT COMPANY BEFORE HAND.

SPEND AS MUCH AS YOU CAN ON ONE OF THESE MODELS TO AVOID GETTING A HEAP OF JUNK (NOT GUARANTEED I KNOW)

AND WHERE POSSIBLE AVOID THE LOCAL PEUGEOT DEALER AS THEIR PARTS PRICES WILL GIVE YOU NIGHTMARES!!!

Other than that I would have another one so long as it was mint as when driving the car and it's running fine they are a bundle of fun!!

Especially on the twisty stuff :o)
