1996 Peugeot 306 S16 review from Australia and New Zealand
"Fantastic adrenalin rush! Love it"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The drivers side engine mount (top) is broken, makes a bad clunking noise when hard accelerating.
Crank pulley assembly had to be replaced at 94000km's. very squeaky, but not much to fix.
As far as everything else is concerned, it's all in solid condition.
General comments?
These cars have to be driven hard to appreciate how well they can handle, it is very impressive.
Around our home race track Pukekohe this car corners around the hairpin 20km/h faster than the V8 super cars.
The cabin is abit bare for the money you would have paid back in 1996 ($50,000 NZD) with 1/2 leather seats, the usual air con and spots buttons and that's about it. the dash has a oil pressure gauge and oil level gauge which is not usual on most cars, but really is not that useful.
The engine is impressive. Seriously high compression (like a Honda v-tech) all aluminium with a cam set up the v-tech. Rated power is 115kw or 155bhp (although mine has a bit more due to some work). Chews up speedo numbers fast!!
