2005 Peugeot 307 HDi review from Australia and New Zealand

"Crap"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

At 10000kms the engine lost power and the infamous anti pollution fault message appeared. This was the first of many times this message appeared. The problem was diagnosed as a faulty turbo.

Because of problems the service dealer had with the computer diagnostic program, we used a hire care at their expense for four weeks while our car was repaired.

At the 42500 km service the brake discs, pads and tyres were replaced, and the infamous anti pollution message was frequently displayed from the time of turbo replacement until the end.

At 95000 kms the injector pump failed and was replaced, this took six weeks because the windscreen also needed replacing and parts had to be accessed from France.

At 105000 kms the turbo again failed and considerable damage was caused to the engine. After many months of wrangling with Peugeot and the dealers, we finally settled on a cost to rebuild the engine.

After 10 months we took delivery of our rebuilt wagon in November 2008. Within a few days the dreaded anti pollution message appeared as well as an engine shudder at certain speeds, especially when using cruise control. The exhaust would also belch black smoke at periodic intervals.

Finally, whilst driving home one night, the engine shuddered, died and burst into flames. The car was completely destroyed bu the time the emergency services arrived. Our insurer researched this model and told us there is a history of these vehicles catching fire.

Of any company I have dealt with. Peugeot would have to have the worst customer relations I have encountered.

General comments?

The car was a pleasure to drive when we first bought it, but as the list of problems grew, so the stress levels increased at each peculiar message or noise from the engine. It was the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned.
